Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry or sleep dentistry, may be the best thing ever to happen in the dental field. Thirty to fifty percent of the population avoids regular visits to the dentist because of anxiety about pain. This creates severe dental problems that often could have been avoided.

There are two primary reasons that people avoid the dentist:

  • Fear
  • Past bad dental experiences

Poor dental health can cause a myriad of health problems that seem unrelated to your mouth. People with gum disease are twice as likely to have:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis

Sedation Dentistry can mean visits to the dentist that are painless and fear-free!

For those guests who would benefit from a prescription, our sedation dentistry team can plan ahead with calming sedative medication. Some of our guests prefer "sedation dentistry," using a safe little sleeping pill that allows you to comfortably drift in and out of sleep through your entire visit.

Basic steps in Sedation Dentistry

  1. Eat no food in the morning
  2. Take a mild sedative the night before to avoid anxiety
  3. On arriving at  office, take sedation medication appropriate to the length of the procedure
  4. You will be somewhat conscious during the procedure, but relaxed, and you may fall asleep

Benefits of sedation dentistry

  • No fear
  • Faster procedure because you are relaxed
  • Greater comfort
  • Little or no memory of the procedure
  • No IV
